Philly to D.C.

I spent last weekend in Philadelphia, staying with my friend Valerie, who happened to graduate today, 13 May 2010, so CONGRATS TO YOU VALERIE!

I actually didn't get to see much of Philly, I arrived at 5pm, went over to Val's apartment, rested, and we were out to have a nice pre-graduation dinner at a Cuban restaurant with her friends. They turned the dining area into a dance floor at about 11.30pm and that's when the party started. An interesting/funny story took place where I got to play hero, but if you really want to know that story I'll only tell it first hand. It requires some details that is really difficult to explain. Anyway, that was a fun night.

The next morning, her two friends drove us to Washington D.C., the capital of the United States. It was awesome, we had a nice french lunch, gotta say, I'm not a huge fan of Couscous after having it for the first time, but the meat was awesome. Then we headed to the Lincoln Memorial, WWII Memorial, Washington Memorial, Capitol Building, White House. All pretty big landmarks in D.C., we didn't get to visit any of the museums cause we only had a day there, but it was all good. We then headed over to Virginia to have a Korean BBQ, which had delicious meat. I must have put on 30lbs over that one weekend.

The next morning, I had to catch a 1.30pm flight, so Val sent me to train station before she went to church. I got off at the wrong station thanks to some outdated brochure, my flight was at Terminal D not A. Good thing there was a bus from terminal to terminal. My gate also got changed at the last minute because the previous plane had a malfunction and had to stay at the gate, good thing I wasn't on that flight because they had at least a two hour delay. All in all, the flight was good. And now I am back in good ole Cincy.

Damn

What up world? I know it's been a while since I last updated. But if you know me, you would know I am lazy. Extremely. Things are going great as usual. School isn't as stressful as it used to be in the winter, I blame the weather. It was just so cold. But spring is here now so the weather is getting a little warmer. However, it still can get pretty cold, it will never be warm and balmy like the good ole'  tropical Singapore.

Winter

I'm sorry for not updating my blog. I've just been feeling really lazy about it, and having to write more with all the reports, projects I have to do, maintaining a blog is hard work! Well anyway, lets see where I left off.

I went on a road trip with my family during winter break. My mummy came to visit me, spent a couple of days in Chicago. Then from Chicago, we drove all the way to Las Vegas in an RV! It was loads of fun being in the vehicle with my mum, grandma, aunt, uncle and his wife. The drive was long but we got to see loads of stuff. In Vegas, it was fun fun fun. The casinos were awesome, I found my new favorite slot machine, learnt a new card game, three card poker, but did not win any money, ha! Counted down for new years and watched the fireworks from our hotel room. At the blink of an eye, its 2010! For more, just go to my facebook and check out the pictures.

Well 2010 and its back to school for me. School is great however, I've joined a fraternity, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and the people there are great and loads of fun. They make school that much better.
However, I am feeling so unmotivated right now and its mid February. The quarter is going to end soon, but I feel like I have so much to catch up. Oh well.

Thanks for listening and stay tune, hopefully it won't take another four months for an update. Heh.

Falling out of Airplane

I SKYDIVED TODAY! It was AWESOME. Thanks to my schools' UC Skydiving Club, that organized it, I went SKYDIVING! It was suppose to be yesterday, a Saturday, but because of the iffy weather, we didn't wanna risk it and went today instead. The place we went to was at Lebanon, Ohio, about 20 to 30 minute drive from Cincinnati, called StartSkydiving.com. We reached there and had to sign a bunch of waiver forms, to cover the places' asses. After that we watched a video and then got suited up, I had a video so there was a brief unglamorous moment for me where I had to talk to the camera. After that, it was on to the plane.

The plane ride was kinda pleasant, although I was the last to board, which means I was the first one out, and I kinda kept slipping behind as the plane climbed cause there was nothing to hold on to. After we got to the correct height, I stood up and waddled to the door, I was looking out and hesitating, but the instructor behind me was already counting down, I had no control and we just JUMPED.

The feeling of plummeting downwards towards the ground was unbelievable. And the cold air didn't help, it was freezing. You could feel the cold air hitting your face and just the feeling of weightlessness. The cameraman was nearby and so we waved to him, and he took a couple of good shots of me. After what felt like an eternity, the instructor deployed the parachute and we floated in the air. When we were up there, my body came to terms with what happened, and I felt my stomach overturn. I felt like puking, so I guess its a good thing I didn't eat anything, otherwise it would have been embarrassing.  But I managed to pull it together. Although the instructor pulled a trick or two like asking me to stand on his legs and then loosening the straps on my harness so I would be more comfortable, WHILE WE WERE STILL IN THE AIR, was really heart pumping, and then he proceeded to show me how pulling the steering thing on this chute helps him steer, which he did, and pulled only one side and sent us into a spin, didn't help my stomach at all. But it was fun watching the ground get closer to us, and then finally landing on our asses. It was a truly AWESOME experience.

UC

It has been raining so much these days, not that I am complaining, I love the rain, but complimented with the cold weather over here in Cincinnati, brrrrr. Well, it has been a month since I've been here in the states, and I have to say, I'm liking it so far. I used to be worried about rankings with schools, but I think University of Cincinnati really rocks. The people are generally really nice here. The campus is really beautiful, and our football team, Bearcats, rocks, undefeated so far.

Classes has also started and so far its going well. My major is Sociology so of course I am taking one Sociology class. I'm also taking a mandatory english class for all freshmen. Plus I am taking a Physics, Philosophy and Fine Arts class. All are really interesting and I am learning new things everyday. Well I have nothing much to report, I better get back to my homework.

Bad Day

So I had a bad day.

Today was the first day that I embark on my journey to college. My flight was 7.25am and I reached the airport at 6.30am. By the time I lined up to check in my baggage, it was already 7am. My bag had to be checked in 40 minutes before the flight to make it, so obviously I didn't, they said my bag could get on a later flight but I would have to wait for it. So I decided to change flights, and fly with my bag, at 9.05am.

So I reached my destination, got on a cab, and according to the handbook they gave us, I had to check in with International Services, so I dragged my heavy bag to the office, and asked to be checked in. And they said there was a mass check in on Friday, so please come back on Friday. My dorm was a click away, I could have asked the cab to drop me off there.

So I dragged my heavy ass bag, for a click, then guess what, my building was on a hill, so I had to carry my bag up the steps to get to my building. After I reached the front door, you need an access card to get in, even to the lobby, well I of course didn't have one yet, so I stood there like an idiot and waited for someone to open the door for me.

After finally getting in the building, I asked to be checked in, so of course they couldn't find my name, so again, I stood there, and waited for them to sort it out, and finally they did, and now I am in my dorm.

There is no wi fi provided in the dorms, so I had to go shopping for an Ethernet cable to get online. There is also no bed sheets, pillow and only one light. So I would have to get all these tomorrow.

So I had a bad day.

Full

Well I have officially reached the land of cheeseburgers and it has been awesome so far. I am in Chicago, the Windy City, and they don't kid when they name it so, it is fricking windy all day, plus it is cold, which adds to the experience. I'm currently staying with my uncle and his wife, they live in this cool apartment by the lake, which means the view is fantastic.

I'd also like to thank all my friends and family for their well wishes.

And before I left from Singapore, I had this feeling, you know that tingling feeling where you like someone, the feeling of of always having that someone on your mind, the happy feeling you have when you see her, the happy feeling when you hug her, the sad feeling when you have to leave her, then the feeling of missing that person whenever you are not with her, well I have those feelings now, and its awesome to feel those feelings, I hope it doesn't go away until I get to see her again.

Thoughts

We all have our very own sob story, whether its tragic, laughable, complicated, simple, each one its unique, I know, this is a similiar post about problems, but this is about the story, the story of your life, the one that molds you into who you are. The one that gives you, whether its your beliefs, personality, views, appearance, thoughts, whatever it is, this is the story that makes you who you are.

I was raised in a single parent family, by my mum, I've never seen my father before, because they got a divorce when I was still a baby. But I still consider myself lucky, for my mum has worked smart and hard, and it has paid off. We never had any trouble putting food on the table, never had any trouble having a roof over our heads, though it wasn't a life luxury, we were contented. I probably never got any of this when I was younger, and took a lot for granted, being a very spoilt and obnoxious brat. Hope I've changed.

I was kinda surrounded by a large feminine presence growing up, my mum, my grandma, most of my cousins my age and the ones I play with are girls, my primary school classes from 1 through 6 ratio of girls to boys were 2 to 1. I suppose it's amazing I didn't turn gay or very feminine, but that can be attributed to my mum again. She has always raised me to protect her, to be the man of the house, and never the need to dress me up like her or anything like that, but I guess you can call me sexist or something, because I've always had the strong urge to protect them, whether if its when I am with my mum or with a group of girls, just the urge to be able to stand up for them and make sure nothing happens to them. I love my women too much. lol.

PARTAY!

THANK YOU ALL! I had a great time on Saturday night, had an awesome party at my place, dubbed "My Farewell", cause you know, it is my farewell, as I will be leaving on the 5th of September for the states. Thanks to all the crazy ass people that came, the party was a blast. But dude Zhi Kun, don't drink so much man, you got so wasted you were like the Hangover, couldn't remember anything at all about the night, and you kept puking, you need to thank the dudes who took care of you, there are photographic evidence. But thank you all once again for making it a blast, and I hope to see each and everyone of you soon!

Growth

Can I just say Oh My God? I was reading my past entries from B.S. and never realised I actually wrote so many. Like a few pages worth. And I also realised I was quite a whiny and narcissistic dude, not that I'm no longer one, just funny how after looking back, you see how strange it is, like looking into a mirror but you don't see yourself(creepy but thats not the point of the metaphore), you see someone familiar yet you can't really quite put your hand on where you know him from.

It's odd really, how people change so gradually, so subtly. You meet that friend on the street whom you haven't seen in ages, and sometimes they go, "Hey, you have changed!", and you go, "Really? No lah! Where got?". But you can go to another friend whom you see very often, and they won't notice the change, even though you have known the both of them for the same amount of time.

Well, I realise that I have changed, hopefully for the better. Okay maybe change isn't the right word, say, mature. As you grow older, you learn so much, and you take those lessons, and apply it, whether it's mistakes you made or others did, or something good came out of something you did, so you know to repeat it the next time. And as you grow older, you take on more responsibilities, you realise there are things you have to do you have never done before, then the whole cycle repeats itself, learn, apply, rinse and repeat.
